before you watch the video (which by the way i laughed so hard when i saw it) let me give you the background on this story...
i can't stand long hair on boys. but each summer joseph's hair gets these really cool blond highlights on the tips of his thick chocolate brown hair so for 4 months i let it grow out. its a struggle and has been each summer but i just love how his hair lightens up. so i push along and watch it grow. yes, there have been times where i'm just so sick of it that i want to grab the clippers and shave it but i resist. i wish i could say the same for my husband...
i was off to swim practice one morning with juliette. usually joseph goes with us but james had the day off of work so he said "leave joseph; we'll hang out."
skip about an hour ahead, 11:25am, minutes before we're about to head home. i pick up my phone and see that i have 4 or 5 missed text messages from james. now on my phone if i don't open the text messages as i receive them then when i do open them up i end up checking from the most recent one received not which one came first. i open it up and to my absolute shock and horror i see my 3 year old little joseph with this HUGE MOHAWK! i gasped and everyone heard it and about 6 people came running over. then i checked all the texts messages, going back and back and back. the first one james sent was a picture of joseph with the text "the before shot." then the next 3 pictures i see are of joseph from different angles with his hair on the sides completely gone and 3 inches of spike right down the center clear to the back. i thought i was going to die, then i thought i was going to kill james.
i got in the truck, went to aaron and wendy's to drop of grace and showed wendy all the pictures. she died laughing and after i wrapped my brain around what i had just seen i too was laughing.
in fact, when i got home i thought joseph looked so cute that i was willing to let him keep it but james actually wanted to cut it after just one day. we compromised and i trimmed it down and it has since been cut again to completely even it out. it was fun and joseph loved, loved, loved his mean monster haircut! i'm glad they actually were able to do something fun like that as father and son. good memories! and to think they were just going to hang out...
