Barbershop-ette

i have to start out by saying that i absolutely dreaded blogging about this unfortunate event which occurred about 4 weeks ago but my dad and james' mom have been asking for pictures, so here goes...
i was downstairs cooking dinner one evening when juliette came downstairs and started bickering w/ joseph. of course that led to a few minutes in time-out and while in time-out she yells out to me "MOMMY!!!! MY HAIR IS FALLING OUT!!!!"
of course i drop everything and run over to see what is going on w/ her hair. in her hand was a clump of hair. my first thought was "does she have some kind of weird disease or cancer that makes your hair fall out before even getting any treatment?" but then i looked at her head and notice that she is missing tons of hair all over the front of her head. immediately i grabbed her arm and marched up the stairs w/ her and had her show me and tell me everything that happened.
it was a terrible, horrible, sad, sad, sad sight!!!! i saw scissors on the table a few strands of hair on the floor and almost wanted to CRY!!!!
i got myself together, went downstairs and in order to avoid juliette i stuck her in time-out in the furthest corner from the dinner table. after 2 or 3 minutes i let her come closer, closer meaning the time-out chair, and then eventually to the table.
boy was dinner rough, though. you've seen those old loony toon cartoons where a character is so mad that they have steam coming from their ears... well, that was me!!!!! when i asked juliette why she cut her hair she told me "b/c i want to be like tinker bell in the lost treasure movie." my reply: "you're NOT tinker bell!"
ahhhh... since then juliette has promised me on several occasions that "i will never, ever, and i mean NEVER cut my hair AGAIN!" and i have to say she is so cute when she says it.
and as i said it has been 3 weeks and i am finally over her hair cutting incident. but if i could just add that that same night about 30 minutes after juliette cut her hair joseph had one of his only 2 potty accidents and pooped in the bath tub. -let me tell you one thing, i am NOT a drinking woman as many of you know but had someone offered me a drink that night i probably would have guzzled it right down! (not really but i'm sure you can imagine all my frustrations after an hour and 30 minutes full of CRAZY, CRAZY, CRAZY kids incidents!)

here is the before picture (this was taken probably 3 or 4 days before she did the job)

and here are the AFTER shots - the top one is of how it looks w/ her hair up & the bottom one a shot w/ her hair down. i personally think that when she has her hair down that it almost looks like the beginning stages of a mullet. HAHA! if you want to see more there are tons on our online album.
i still think my baby girl looks so cute. and while i can't stand the bangs that she gave herself at least they are growing in more quickly than what i thought they would.

So I haven't commented on your blog in a long time. But this makes me laugh because I'm pretty sure almost all families have at least one kid that takes scissors to their own hair. My little sister did that and had steps in her bangs for a while. My mom was not happy when she came home. I think we older sisters got in trouble for not watching a close eye on the toddler :P You didn't try to fix it did you? I'd just let her have the bad haircut and learn from it. :-)

heather, oh man, I would die, it really is a mothers worst nightmare..at least for me, i would cry and be so mad if kenzie did that. even thought of jason shaving harpers hair makes me want to cry! I make sure and do a reallt good job of hiding the scissors..most of the time I cant even find them, let alone kenzie or harper getting them. sad day, im sorry!

I just have to mention the Fruit (or shall I say, the Hair)does not fall far from the tree. Juliette's daddy pulled this same stunt once when he was little. Juliette at least had the good sense to cut a straight line! Ah-h-h-h grandchildren- they make life so amusing....
